New Support Group to launch in North West London

Today we catch up with Ashita, Volunteer Support Group Leader at the North West London group. Ashita shares what inspired her to start a support group in her local community and some words of advice to those thinking about attending for the first time.

What inspired you to set up a new support group in North West London?

My personal experiences with endometriosis and the empathy for people suffering from it have played a significant role in shaping my desire to help others. A support group can be a powerful way to create a safe space for individuals who feel misunderstood or are facing challenges. By sharing my own journey, I want to inspire others to talk about their journey and foster a sense of community.

Can you tell us why you wanted to become an Endometriosis UK volunteer?

I wanted to align my personal experiences with my academic and personal passions. By focusing on endometriosis, I wanted to not just provide support but also create a platform to raise awareness. I believe the volunteering experience could offer me a deeper connection to the community, while also allowing me to continue learning about my own health journey.

What impact has endometriosis had on your life?

Endometriosis often took a hidden toll on various aspects of my life being physical, academic, professional, and emotional. The unpredictability of symptoms causes feelings of isolation or frustration, especially when it affects your career and personal life. Many experiences like missing school and work and staying in bed with hot water bags to experiencing constant fatigue and anxiety have been major chronic stressful events in my life.

What advice would you give to someone who may be attending an Endometriosis UK support group for the first time?

We offer more than just an empathetic ear—we provide a safe space where you can connect with others who understand and support you. Here, you’ll find a community of individuals willing to share their diverse experiences, helping you broaden your understanding and take positive steps towards your overall well-being. Together, we can navigate the challenges and embrace the strength that comes from connection and shared wisdom.
