Training session for nurses in Guildford

We invite Practice Nurses of GP surgeries from the Guildford area to attend a free training session on endometriosis. The training will be delivered by Wendy-Rae Mitchell, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Carol Pearson, Endometriosis UK Trustee.

DATE: Monday 9th February 2015
TIME: 7pm-9pm
VENUE: Seminar Room, Outpatients 1, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Egerton Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 7XX

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women. That’s approximately 1.5 million women in the UK. It is a debilitating disease that affects every part of a woman’s life. On average it takes seven years for women to receive a diagnosis and be put on the right treatment pathway. Endometriosis UK wants to raise awareness amongst health professionals to reduce diagnosis times and improve treatment pathways.

The training session will look at:

  • Identifying symptoms of endometriosis
  • Treatment pathways for patients
  • Caring for post-operative endometriosis patients in the community
  • A patient’s perspective

Wendy-Rae Mitchell (BSc in Women’s Health Care, Diploma in Humanistic counselling, Certificate in Education, Association Psychosexual Nurses, RGN) runs an endometriosis clinic at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, alongside Mr Andrew Kent (Consultant in Gynaecology and Minimal Access Surgery) and his team. She is a counsellor and guest lecturer at the University of Surrey and has been invited to speak at a launch for the new role of Endometriosis Clinical Nurse Specialist by the Royal College of Nurses in March 2015.

Carol Pearson (Trustee of Endometriosis UK) had a successful career as a chartered accountant that was cut short due to complications of severe endometriosis. Since retirement she has been appointed to an NHS non-executive role. Last year, Carol gave an inspiring presentation at TEDX Brighton about her experiences of the condition and the need for awareness-raising.

Spaces for this session are limited.
