MernalinI began noticing symptoms in 2010 and was told the bleeding and pain were side effects of contraceptives. I accepted that explanation and managed my heavy bleeding with pads and medication, making it my "normal." The pain often forced me to call in sick or push through shifts as a nurse, enduring unbearable discomfort. I also dealt with bowel conditions that were never properly investigated. These challenges overshadowed time with my family, leaving me anxious and unable to enjoy life fully. Over time, the physical and emotional toll became overwhelming. I was diagnosed with depression, driven by chronic fatigue, the strain of a broken marriage, and the mental toll of heavy bleeding. Witnessing my own blood drain away left me feeling physically and emotionally drained. While I’m grateful to the doctors who helped manage my symptoms, I wish earlier investigations had spared me years of pain and uncertainty. As a mother of two teenage girls, I am particularly passionate about raising awareness of the genetic risks of endometriosis. Both my sister and I have been diagnosed, and I worry that our daughters are at higher risk. I’m determined to advocate for awareness and early management so others can avoid unnecessary suffering. This journey has fueled my passion to ensure others receive the care, understanding, and early intervention they deserve. |
