My Story:

I was diagnosed with endo when I was 23 years old, after exploring many treatment options 7 years after diagnosis, I had a total Hysterectomy & bilateral Oopherectomy.  It was the months following this operation that my dad found an ad for our support group.  The group offered me a lifeline, as I continued to suffer from pain following my surgery and in the years since.  Finding other women who could relate to what I was going through and had been through, was such a relief and a great support mechanism.

I have since become a committee member within our group, I have made life long friendships and I feel valued for what I can offer, rather than what my illness stops me from doing!

My Story:

I have been a Support Group Leader for the Belfast Support Group since 2018. I am 33 years old, married and mother of one daughter. I have suffered from endometriosis and adenomyosis. I had a hysterectomy with unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in March 2017.

Beverley

My Story:

Hello, My name is Beverley I am 39 years old.

I have suffered from the age of 10 from very painful heavy periods. I was told by doctors that this was normal and to just take the "Pill" to get through your exams. I also suffered from P.C.O.S.

I am Mother to Dylan who is now 14yrs.  He is my world and he is a great comfort as he is so very kind and caring.

I had a diagnosis of endometriosis and after having just had enough of the pain and no energy I had a complete hysterectomy in 2015.  This also showed that I was suffering from the adenomyosis.

I have never looked back.  I am now part a great committee team for our Belfast Group.  I have made loads of new friends who can all show empathy towards each other.

I shall look forward to welcoming you.

About the support group:

Our group meets in Belfast and was the first Endometriosis Support Group in NI.

The group meets on the last Thursday of every month (except July, August & December) at 8pm in Belfast City Hospital, Wing E, Outpatients. We stay in touch by Facebook & email during summer months & arrange a coffee evening to ensure that we are still available to offer support when needed.

Due to the firm relationships that the group founder Hannah Jaminson has built over the years, we regularly have visits & talks from our local Consultant Gynaecologists, Endo Nurse and Patient Client Council.  Whilst we always offer time and space for general chats, sharing & blowing off steam (if need be!), a listening ear and encouragment for women to be their best advocate, we also try to offer information which may benefit individuals.  Q&A sessions with Endo Specialising Gynaecologists give them an idea of what they should expect and ask for regarding the best available treatment options.  We have also had an anaethesiologist attend a meeting to offer informtion on how the Pain Clinic can help with pain management.

General Session Information:

Every group meeting starts at 8pm and we finish with a light supper & refreshments at 9.30pm.
