This is Tannagh’s Story.
“I am a 27-year-old teacher living and working in London. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in South Africa (where I am from) 5 years ago.
As a Nursery School Teacher, my job is incredibly physically and emotionally demanding and there are many days each month during one of my flare ups where I am definitely putting on a very brave face at work. There are some days that getting out of bed feels almost impossible.
I wouldn’t be able to do what I do if it weren’t for my amazingly supportive and understanding team. They see and hear me and give me support for a condition that they cannot physically see. I am so lucky to be given time off when I need it and just general help at work, but I know there are so many who don’t have this support.
Sometimes I do fear for my future; I wonder if I will be able to stay in a job that I love despite the agony I experience most months now. I wonder if my husband and I will be able to bring a baby into the world. But all I can say is keep the right people in your corner. My friends, family and colleagues are who get me through.
I have an upcoming laparoscopy later this year and I am optimistic that this will bring about great change for me. Sending love to all my fellow fighters!”
