We’re very excited to announce that actor and TV producer James Phelps - best known for playing Fred Weasley in the Harry Potter film series – will be running the 2023 London Marathon to raise awareness of endometriosis.
James has partnered with charity Endometriosis UK to support their work advocating for endometriosis sufferers; James is familiar with the disease after his wife was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2013.
Speaking ahead of his marathon, James said: “with endometriosis affecting a whopping 1 in 10 women, it’s likely we all have a friend, relative, partner or colleague who suffers with this debilitating condition, yet the latest statistics from Endometriosis UK reveal 69% of males don’t know what endometriosis is”.
James is keen to boost awareness around the condition and to get men feeling like they can talk about endometriosis more openly: “I’ve seen first hand how tough endometriosis can be for sufferers to live with, but it is also hard when you see someone close to you struggling. If men have a loved one with endometriosis, it would only be a positive thing if they felt like they could chat about it with others, as this would really boost understanding of an illness which affects so many people in our world”.
