Endometriosis UK responds to new Employment Rights Bill

The Government has introduced a new Employment Rights Bill, which introduces new workplace rights to end unfair employment practices.

Commenting on the Bill, Endometriosis UK's Senior Policy Advisor Joanna Campion said:

"We welcome measures to support those going through the menopause to remain in the workforce. However, we think that the same measures should be extended to all those impacted by menstrual health conditions prior to the menopause - such as the 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth living with endometriosis, a significant proportion of the working age population.

"We know from running the Endometriosis Friendly Employer scheme, which includes large employers such HSBC UK, British Airways and Sodexo, as well a range of SMEs, charities, local authorities and police forces, that there are many low-cost, simple things which employers can do to support those with endometriosis to thrive in the workforce. It is also clear that by showing staff that you are willing to have open, honest conversations about the issues they face in their lives, whether related to menstrual health or something different, that you have a chance to build better culture and a more productive, engaged workforce.

"Endometriosis UK will keep a close eye on other areas of the bill which impact those with endometriosis, such as flexible working, as it moves through parliament."
