Endometriosis UK launch new Symptom Checker

Endometriosis UK has today launched a new endometriosis symptoms checker - designed to check for common endometriosis symptoms and support anyone experiencing symptoms to seek medical advice.

In just 60 seconds you can find out if your symptoms could be a sign of endometriosis, a disease affecting 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth.

Once the form is complete, an automated personalised letter is created with your symptoms to give to your GP.

Endometriosis UK hopes the new symptom checker will “improve diagnosis times and access to treatment - as well as raise vital awareness of symptoms and how to seek medical help.”

Jo Hanley, Endometriosis UK’s specialist advisor, who also works part time as an NHS endometriosis nurse, said: “Endometriosis symptoms are all too often shrugged off by society as normal, and it’s vital that everyone recognises the symptoms of endometriosis and when to seek help. Latest stats show that only 54% of the general public know what endometriosis is, and we hope this new accessible tool will help turn this around”.

The new symptoms checker from Endometriosis UK takes less than 60 seconds to complete - and will help patients to start a conversation with their GP about their symptoms, helping GPs understand what you’re experiencing and supporting a diagnosis.

Endometriosis UK aims to support all communities and break down barriers in accessing care. We know that many will face additional barriers in accessing diagnosis and treatment, and we hope this new symptom tracker will support patients to help enable them to communicate symptoms with healthcare practitioners to improve diagnosis and treatment journeys.

Endometriosis UK is also campaigning to reduce diagnosis times for endometriosis with Governments across the UK, which currently average at a shocking 8 years and 10 months in the UK.

Jo added: “With average diagnosis time in the UK taking 8 years and 10 months, urgent action is needed from Governments to ensue all those affected by endometriosis have a prompt diagnosis and access to the right care.”

Information on the symptoms checker:

  • You can access the tracker here
  • Although this symptom checker identifies the common endometriosis symptoms, there are other symptoms with endometriosis. It is possible you still may have endometriosis if you do not suffer with the symptoms listed in this symptom checker.
