Derbyshire master florists and leading UK charity join forces in a bold return to RHS Flower Show Tatton Park

Supported by Endometriosis UK, award-winning Norris Floristry will be creating a powerful floral sculpture to raise vital awareness of endometriosis, a condition which affects 1.5million women and those assigned female at birth in the UK.

Wednesday 17th July sees the return of the highly popular RHS Flower Show Tatton Park, the North West’s premier horticultural event, bringing together industry-leading gardeners, growers and florists in a fantastic five-day family festival.

In the floral marquee, florists have been invited to create installations to raise awareness of causes that they feel passionate about. This year, RHS Chelsea Flower Show medal winners and RHS Tatton regulars Norris Floristry will be in attendance, creating a unique floral sculpture to highlight the impact of endometriosis and the need for better diagnosis, support and treatment.

Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to the ones lining the womb are found elsewhere in the body. This can lead to inflammation, pain, and the formation of scar tissue (adhesions). The disease affects 1.5million in the UK; approximately 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth from puberty to menopause, although the impact can be felt for life. Common symptoms include pelvic pain, painful periods, pain during or after sex, pain when urinating, painful bowel movements, fatigue, and difficulty getting pregnant. Many experience period pain, but if pain is interfering with your everyday live it’s best to see your doctor.

The floral sculpture is entitled ‘This Won't Be the End of Me!’, a 3 metre high distorted column of shocking red and pink blooms, punctuated with died wool, organic materials, barbed wire and mirror shards. The entire structure will sit on a bed of slate fragments, forming a stunning visual representation of endometriosis, and a tribute to the strength of those affected by the disease.

On returning to RHS Tatton supporting Endometriosis UK:

Creative Director Anja said “This is such a great opportunityto bring awareness to endometriosis, especially using the medium of flowers and the art of floral design to create a visual depiction of such an emotional subject for so many people. We hope to capture the true essence of how it feels to live with the condition and tell a story that is as unique as every woman who faces a new fight each day to exist because of it.”

Anja added: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Endometriosis UK at RHS Tatton. The charity works tirelessly to help improve the lives of patients across the UK, and it’s fantastic to be working with their passionate team in bringing our sculpture to visitors to the show and beyond.”

Emma Cox, CEO of Endometriosis UK said: “Endometriosis UK is delighted to be partnering with Norris Floristry on a powerful exhibit to raise awareness of endometriosis at this year’s RHS Flower Show, Tatton Park. The exhibit will shine a much-needed light on endometriosis and the potentially devastating impact it can have on all aspects of a person’s life, including their relationships, career, education and their physical and mental health.

“We look forward to speaking with the thousands of visitors who attend the RHS Flower Show, about a disease they may never have even heard of. Despite affecting 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth in the UK, latest stats show that only 53% of the general public know what endometriosis is.  Starting a conversation about endometriosis, which is all too often considered a taboo conversation, is a step towards shortening very lengthy waits for diagnosis, which currently averages at a shocking 8 years and 10 months in the UK.”

RHS Flower Show Tatton Park runs from Wednesday 17th July until Sunday 21st, and tickets can be purchased from www.rhs.org.uk/shows-events/rhs-flower-show-tatton-park.
