"I love being a trustee!"

Tell us about yourself. What’s your profession and hobby?

My work has always been in the voluntary sector for organisations ranging from the WI to Diabetes UK and Save the Children. I have two small girls so not much time for hobbies but I do try to make time for reading and running.

You have a really busy life, and on top of that you’re involved in charity work. How do you manage to find time to be a trustee?

I am studying for an MSc in Voluntary Sector Management at Cass Business School so long reading lists and essay deadlines are keeping me busy. I am also a trustee for an organisation called Art Against Knives which strives to reduce violent crime through creativity, working with young people and their communities to make permanent, positive change.

The trustee work really helps me with my course, giving me opportunities to reflect on the things that I am learning. Lots of lists and two helpful Grandmas who look after the girls at busy times helps me fit it all in.

What do you enjoy about volunteering as a trustee?

I love being a trustee! I have previously been a trustee for the Fawcett Society and YWCA and have got so much out of all of these experiences - I've met amazing and inspirational people and learned a great deal about how organisations work.

I do not have endometriosis myself but quickly found myself with a passion for raising awareness about the condition and wanting to do something to make a difference to improving endometriosis care, particularly the time it take to diagnose the condition.

How would you like to support Endometriosis UK going forward?

I plan to run the British 10k for Endometriosis UK next year. I'd also like to work with the team to explore ways of influencing the NHS to improve diagnosis times and treatment. I am passionate about the power of volunteering so am really keen to meet more of our amazing volunteers and to increase the opportunities for volunteers to get involved with Endometriosis UK.
