We're recruiting more volunteers for the Endometriosis UK Helpline and to Moderate our HealthUnlocked Forum!
Endometriosis UK’s helpline is the only UK helpline dedicated solely to supporting those affected by endometriosis. It is a vital lifeline to those women, partners, parents and friends who need information, support or just someone to listen. HealthUnlocked is an online forum dedicated specifically to creating a safe space for those affected by endometriosis to share their thoughts and find out valuable information.
Both of these services are run by our amazing volunteers, all of whom have first-hand experience of endometriosis. They do a brilliant job and we are looking for new team members to help us to support more people, both on the phone and online.
Our helpline volunteers work from their own home and sign up for shifts on our monthly helpline rota. Depending on the needs of the helpline and the availability of our helpliners, most volunteers do a weekly or fortnightly shift.Moderator shifts are also agreed on an ongoing basis.
We asked some of our fabulous helpline volunteers what they enjoyed about volunteering with Endometriosis UK:
What are we looking for?
- A well- developed ‘listening ear’
- Ability to empathise with individuals and not to over-sympathise
- Ability to speak authoritatively about endometriosis without embarrassment
- Ability to explain a complex disease in simple terms
- Ability provide information and not advice
- Personal experience of endometriosis
- You must be able to communicate with people from different backgrounds in a non-judgmental way
